Latex clothing requires different care from ordinary fabrics. Washing your garment correctly helps remove excess powder, keeps the latex clean, and prepares it for comfortable wear.
When you first receive a latex garment, you may notice that it is covered with a fine layer of talcum powder. This prevents the latex surfaces from sticking together during production, storage, and shipping. We recommend washing your new garment before wearing it for the first time.
What You’ll Need
- A clean sink, bucket, or bathtub
- Lukewarm water
- A small amount of mild dishwashing detergent
- A suitable hanger
- Talcum powder or latex-safe dressing powder, if needed
Choose a washing container based on the size of your garment. A sink may be sufficient for a latex top or skirt, while a catsuit or long dress may require a bucket or bathtub.
Step 1: Prepare the Water
Fill the sink, bucket, or bathtub approximately halfway with lukewarm water.
Avoid using hot water, as excessive heat may damage natural latex. Make sure the washing area is clean and free from sharp objects that could scratch or puncture the garment.
Step 2: Add a Small Amount of Detergent
Add a small amount of mild dishwashing detergent to the water and mix until it has completely dissolved.
Only a small quantity is needed. Using too much detergent can make the garment more difficult to rinse thoroughly.
Step 3: Gently Wash the Garment
Submerge the latex garment completely in the water.
Gently swirl it around and lightly rub the surface with your hands. Pay extra attention to areas that have been in direct contact with the skin.
Do not scrub aggressively, twist the garment, or use a washing machine. Natural latex should always be handled gently.
If necessary, repeat the gentle washing process a couple of times.
Step 4: Rinse Thoroughly
Drain the soapy water and rinse the garment with clean, lukewarm water.
Continue rinsing until all detergent residue has been removed. Carefully lift the garment from the water without stretching it excessively.
Step 5: Hang the Garment to Dry
If you plan to use talcum powder or latex-safe dressing powder when putting on the garment, hang it up and allow it to dry completely.
Keep the garment away from direct sunlight, radiators, hair dryers, and other sources of heat. Allow it to air-dry naturally, and make sure both the inside and outside are fully dry before storage.
Once dry, apply a light, even layer of dressing powder to prevent the latex from sticking to itself.
